Services
We can perform nearly any service or repair your vehicle needs. The only exceptions are internal automatic transmission repair, and airbag service. Typically, we leave these to specialists. In many cases, it is often cheaper to replace the unit rather than repair it. The best way to handle this situation is to schedule an appointment and let us look at the car. It won’t cost much, if anything, and will give you the best start needed to repair your vehicle.
Has your check engine light come on?
We can help you repair that! It is our goal at Happy Jap Auto to repair your car once. IE, diagnose and replace only the correct part/parts needed to repair your automobile. In order to guarantee this we have developed a system to diagnose your check engine light. For a one-time charge of $42.54 we will connect our diagnostic computer to your car’s computer. This will allow us to view the recorded trouble codes stored in your cars self diagnostic system. We will record these, erase them on the computer, and send you on your way (Provided of course, we feel the car will not leave you stranded). After a period of time the check engine light may return. Bring it back to Happy Jap’s Auto Repair, where we will reconnect the scanner and get the new codes. If they are the same codes you will not pay again. We will recommend you schedule an appointment to leave your car with us for further auto repair. This process ensures that we have a real problem in with the car and that the code is not merely a fluke in the system. Once we have the problem code certain, we can begin the diagnosis that will actually determine what is wrong with your car. It is important to note that most of the time the computer does not tell us what is wrong. The computer simply watches sensors, and reports when one of the readings is abnormal. It is our job to figure out why that reading is out of range. It could simply be a bad sensor (as is often the case with O2 sensors), or it could be something else wrong causing the sensor to give a bad reading.
Preventative Maintenance
Every car requires a little maintenance from time to time. People will often use the term “Tune Up.” We try to avoid this term because it has so many different meanings. To some, it is replacing spark plugs and wires. Many years ago it was plugs, coil, and points. Still others think of filters and fluids. We reccomend following your manufacturers schedule of maintenance. Most of the time this can be found in your owners manual. Some companies, like Toyota, have a seperate booklet for that schedule. If you cannot find either, note the mileage and maintenance history of your car and give us a call. We can put together a plan to put you back on schedule if you’re off, or tell you what is required for whatever interval you may be on, and then give you an idea of cost.
Timing Belts
Timing belts are a common service item. We are fully capable of replacing the timing belt on your vehicle. Call us for a quote. It is important to note that we can only quote you replacement of the belt itself. When replacing a timing belt, we go deep into the engine. Behind the timing belt cover there are many other components we inspect. These components include: Camshaft and crankshaft oil seals, timing belt tensioning devices and idler pulleys. Some cars have electronic sensors and many cars run the water pump off the timing belt. Any of combination of these items may need to be replaced. Due to the nature of their wear, it is impossible to acurately predict what items will be bad. We have a policy of only replacing the items we feel are bad, or could jeopardize the timing belt. This will ensure that you save money by not replacing items uneccassarily, and ensure that your vehicle will be run reliably.
